Georgetown, By the Numbers

Plastic surgery for Georgetown's mix of retirees, students, and young families

Georgetown has grown fast. The 2020 Census counted 67,176 residents, and the city's planning department now lists a Census Bureau estimate of 101,344 for 2024. The Bureau named Georgetown the fastest-growing U.S. city of more than 20,000 people in both 2022 and 2023.

The city also skews older than most of the country. In the Census Bureau's 2020–2024 American Community Survey, 26.2% of Georgetown residents were 65 or older, compared with 17.2% nationally. The median age was 42.6, against 38.9 for the U.S. as a whole.

Much of that comes from Sun City Texas, the Del Webb community for adults 55 and older that opened in 1996. By 2021 it had 8,488 homes and about 15,700 residents, and it accounted for roughly one in five Georgetown residents in 2020.

Georgetown isn't only a retirement town, though. Southwestern University, chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1840 as the state's first institution of higher learning, sits less than a mile east of the 1911 Williamson County Courthouse. And about one in five residents is under 18.

That range of ages is why this page goes deep on three areas: facial surgery for jowls, heavy brows, and a loosening neck; breast lifts; and laser treatment for skin that has seen a lot of Texas sun.

Georgetown has plastic surgeons of its own. If you're comparing options, ask every practice the same things. Is the surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery? Where is surgery performed, and who manages anesthesia? How long will the surgeon keep seeing you afterward? The sections below answer those questions for The Piazza Center, using its own published information.

Facial Surgery

Neck lift or brow lift: which one matches what you see in the mirror?

Most people don't ask for a specific operation. They point to a spot: the jawline, under the chin, the forehead, the eyelids. Dr. Piazza's facial procedures map to those areas, and they're often combined.

Is a neck lift right for you?

The practice describes a typical neck lift patient as someone whose neck sags while the face shows few major signs of aging. Other common reasons include a double chin that diet and exercise haven't changed, vertical or horizontal neck bands, and jowls.

Dr. Piazza works through a small incision under the chin. He removes excess skin and fatty tissue and stitches the platysma muscles together in a tighter, more youthful position. If there is a lot of loose skin, he may add incisions behind the ears or along the hairline.

Prescription pain medicine usually covers the first few days. Most patients are back to desk work and social plans around two weeks. Full recovery, including clearance for hard exercise, takes four to six weeks.

When is a brow lift the better answer?

A brow lift treats the upper third of the face. It addresses a heavy or low brow, forehead creases, frown lines, and the hooded look a sagging brow can give the eyelids. Because it treats only the upper face, recovery is relatively quick. Swelling and bruising fade over one to two weeks, pain medicine is typically needed for a few days, and most people return to desk work in about a week.

Dr. Piazza chooses among four techniques. Endoscopic (three small scalp incisions and a tiny camera) suits minor corrections. Temporal (two incisions at the sides of the head) fits when the brows themselves are the issue. Pretrichial, for moderate to severe drooping, uses an incision just ahead of the hairline and can also bring a high hairline forward; coronal hides it behind the hairline. A brow lift is generally considered cosmetic and isn't covered by insurance.

Crepey eyelids and crow's feet: laser eyelid tightening

For skin around the eyes, the practice offers laser eyelid tightening for wrinkled lids, crow's feet, dark spots, and tear-trough hollows. It uses the MicroLaserPeel setting of a ProFractional laser to resurface upper and lower lid skin 100 to 300 microns deep, working through tiny micro-channels while leaving the top layer of skin in place. A medical aesthetic nurse performs each session under topical numbing, and sessions last up to an hour. Most people need a series spaced months apart and should plan on about 7 to 10 days away from social plans, though many return sooner. The practice lists the cost at $1,500 to $1,800.

Breast Lift

Breast lift for Georgetown patients: what the surgery involves and how recovery goes

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, genetics, and gravity can all leave breasts lower and flatter than they once were. A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises and reshapes the breast tissue, moves the nipple higher, and removes stretched skin. On its own it doesn't add volume. That's why the practice describes a typical candidate as someone who likes her size but not her shape or position.

Which breast lift technique does Dr. Piazza use?

Dr. Piazza uses short-scar methods: either a vertical short-scar lift or a circular incision around the areola, depending on how much lift you need. Stitches are placed under the skin, so nothing has to be removed later.

If you also want more fullness, Dr. Piazza can add an implant or fat transfer during the same operation, which saves you a second surgery and a second recovery. The lift itself is done under general anesthesia, takes 1.5 to 3.5 hours, and is outpatient, performed at a fully accredited ambulatory surgery center near the office.

How long is breast lift recovery?

You'll wake up with small white bandages and a soft bra. No drains are used. Showering is encouraged the day after surgery, and the practice asks you not to ice the area. Expect tightness and mild discomfort, managed with medication, and possibly light bruising around the areola around day three.

Bandages come off between days 5 and 7, which is also when most people go back to work and social plans. At six weeks you're roughly 80% healed and back to full activity, and healing is complete at about three months. Bruising usually clears in two weeks. Any change in nipple sensation is typically temporary and resolves in 6 to 8 weeks.

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?

Signs a lift may help include breasts that have softened and nipples that aim down or rest below the fold under the breast. At the consultation Dr. Piazza looks at breast shape, skin quality, and your goals. Bringing photos of results you like helps him decide on technique and whether an implant or fat transfer belongs in the plan. You can browse before-and-after photos in the practice gallery. He follows breast lift patients for years after surgery.

Sun-Damaged Skin

Laser treatment for sun spots and aging skin: BBL HERO, MOXI, and HALO

Central Texas sun adds up. Brown spots, uneven tone, redness, and rough texture on the face, chest, and backs of the hands are some of the most visible marks of years spent outdoors. Sun City alone has three golf courses and more than 26 miles of walking trails.

At The Piazza Center, every sun damage plan begins with a Visia Skin Analysis. That imaging assessment measures how deep the damage goes, factoring in your age and skin type. The plan usually pairs in-office sessions with a home regimen built around retinol and daily sun protection.

BBL HERO: for brown spots and redness

BBL HERO uses broadband light to target pigment, redness, rosacea, and visible facial veins. A full-face session takes about 12 to 15 minutes, and larger areas like the chest, arms, or back go quickly. Built-in cooling means numbing is rarely needed, and you can go back to work and wear makeup right away.

Treated spots darken and then flake off over 7 to 10 days. Dr. Piazza recommends about one session every three months, roughly four a year. You'll need to stay out of the sun and skip tanning for three weeks before each treatment.

MOXI: a gentle laser for tone and texture

MOXI is a non-ablative fractional laser that works on the upper layers of skin. That suits mild sun damage, freckles, and melasma, and it's safe for all skin types year-round. A session takes about 30 minutes, skin looks mildly sunburned for a few hours, and downtime is about two days, with makeup allowed after 24 hours. The usual plan is three to four sessions a month apart, then a touch-up every six months.

HALO: deeper resurfacing with less downtime

HALO is a hybrid fractional laser that treats the outer skin (the epidermis) and the deeper dermis in the same pass. It addresses wrinkles, enlarged pores, scarring, dull skin, and brown spots on the face and body. Treatment takes about an hour with numbing cream and built-in cooling.

Afterward, skin is red, swollen, and sensitive for about two to four hours. No dressing is needed, and improvement shows within weeks. HALO is generally recommended once a year, though many patients come back every six months.

Getting Here

How long is the drive from Georgetown to The Piazza Center?

From the Williamson County Courthouse on the Square to the office at 5920 W William Cannon Dr is about 36 miles. Routing data from the Open Source Routing Machine puts the trip at about 44 minutes with no traffic. Plan on more than that at rush hour.

The fastest route: I-35, SH 45, and MoPac

Take University Ave (SH 29) east to I-35 South. After about 10 miles, take exit 250 toward SH 45 Toll and Loop 1 Toll, head west on SH 45, then follow MoPac (Loop 1) south through Austin. Near the end, exit for US 290 West/SH 71 West, follow the frontage road toward William Cannon Dr, and turn left. The office is Building 7, Suite 200, in the Mesa Oaks Professional Center.

SH 45 and the stretch of MoPac north of Parmer Lane are toll roads. MoPac's express lanes farther south are optional and also tolled.

Is there a toll-free way?

Yes. Stay on I-35 South to US 290 West/SH 71 (Ben White Blvd), then head west to William Cannon Dr. It's about 39 miles and roughly 50 minutes with no traffic. The catch is that it runs through TxDOT's I-35 Capital Express Central project between US 290 East and Ben White Blvd, which is scheduled for completion in 2033. The SH 130 toll road east of town is longer, about 53 miles.

Driving from Sun City

From Del Webb Blvd, the usual path runs down Williams Dr, D B Wood Rd, and SH 29 to I-35, then joins the route above. That's about 43 miles and 57 minutes with no traffic.

When should you leave?

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute's 2025 list of the state's 100 most congested road segments, based on 2024 data, ranks I-35 between US 290 North and Ben White Blvd 9th in Texas. The same list includes MoPac between US 183 and Loop 360 (42nd), US 290/SH 71 between RM 1826 and MoPac (45th), which is the last stretch before the office, and I-35 through Round Rock between RM 1431 and SH 45 (65th).

For an early appointment, build in a cushion, or ask for a late-morning slot.

Who drives you home after surgery?

Plan on someone else driving. The practice's liposuction instructions say it plainly: you'll need someone to drive you home. Even for some in-office treatments, the practice asks for a driver if you take oral pain medication or Pronox during the visit. From Southwest Austin to Georgetown is a 36-mile ride, so choose someone who can wait for you or come back on short notice.

For longer combined operations, Dr. Piazza has written that he keeps operating time under about six hours so patients reach recovery shortly after midday, and he sends them home once their discomfort is controlled and they're up walking. A mid-afternoon departure can put your driver close to the evening rush on I-35 or MoPac, so the ride home may take longer than the ride down.

What does the visit timeline look like?

Consultation. You can request an in-person or virtual consultation. Dr. Piazza reviews your goals and medical history, examines you, and gives you a personalized cost estimate afterward.

Anesthesia call. Two to three weeks before surgery, Dr. Melissa Cady, D.O., an independent anesthesiologist who has worked with the practice since 2013, schedules a video call. She reviews your medical history and past anesthesia experiences and answers your questions, so that conversation doesn't require a trip.

Surgery day. Surgery is performed at an accredited surgery center in Austin. The office confirms the exact address and arrival time with your pre-op instructions, so your driver knows where to go.

Follow-up. Check-ins continue well past the healing phase, and Dr. Piazza keeps seeing brow lift and breast lift patients for years, so expect several more trips south over time.

Recovering at home in Georgetown

Your written instructions from Dr. Piazza come first. The local details below help you follow them; they don't replace them.

Who do you call if something feels wrong?

For questions about pain, swelling, or your incisions, call The Piazza Center at (512) 288-8200. For a true emergency, call 911. In Georgetown, St. David's Georgetown Hospital at 2000 Scenic Dr runs a 24-hour emergency department and is a Level IV trauma center. Its main number is (512) 943-3000. Share both numbers with whoever is staying with you.

How much should you walk after surgery?

Dr. Piazza asks surgical patients to walk 10 to 15 minutes every hour while awake. It isn't exercise. It keeps blood moving, helps prevent clots, and helps your body clear fluid. In the first days, that simply means laps around the house.

Where to walk once you're cleared

When Dr. Piazza says longer walks are fine, Georgetown has paved and crushed-granite paths close to home. The San Gabriel Park Loop is 1.9 miles of crushed granite. The South San Gabriel River Trail is 4.15 miles of concrete running from the McMaster Athletic Complex through Blue Hole Park and Chautauqua Park to 17th St, including the lighted Winfred H. Bonner section. The 0.45-mile San Gabriel River Trail, a concrete path from San Gabriel Park to Katy Crossing, was named a National Recreation Trail in 2006.

Lighted city trail sections are open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; unlit trails are open dawn to dusk. Save the Pickett Trail between Blue Hole and Chautauqua parks for later, since the city rates it challenging and it isn't ADA accessible. Sun City residents have more than 26 miles of community walking trails. Hold off on anything strenuous until you're cleared; after a neck lift, for example, that's typically four to six weeks.

Protecting your skin after laser treatment

Sun exposure works against laser results. BBL HERO calls for no sun or tanning for three weeks before treatment, and eyelid tightening patients limit sun before and after. Walk early or late in the day.

Managing swelling after facial surgery

For the first two weeks, Dr. Piazza recommends a compression garment, 80 to 100 ounces of water a day, and avoiding salty, processed food. His swelling article also recommends lymphatic drainage massage and names Austin-area providers, including a nurse-led mobile service that treats patients at home; ask whether it travels to Georgetown.

Paying for Treatment

How much does a brow lift or breast lift cost, and can you finance it?

Facial surgery and breast lift pricing depends on technique, how much correction you need, and whether procedures are combined, so Dr. Piazza gives you a personalized estimate after your consultation. One published figure: laser eyelid tightening runs $1,500 to $1,800, based on how much correction you need and how many sessions.

Cosmetic surgery such as a brow lift generally isn't covered by insurance. The practice works with three financing companies:

Cherry. Flexible monthly payments, 0% APR options, an application that takes about 60 seconds, and no prepayment penalty.

CareCredit®. Healthcare financing that has been around since 1987, with a quick online application.

PatientFi. Monthly payment plans, and checking your eligibility won't affect your credit score.

0% APR is available to qualified applicants. Details are on the financing page.
